About Me
AJ Abdelnour attended Michigan State University, graduating in 2022 with a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and studying Entrepreneurship and Innovation. He was on the dean’s list at Michigan State, and during his sophomore year, he put his entrepreneurial spirit and skills to work, co-founding Above 10 Landscaping LLC in 2019.
AJ Abdelnour: An Entrepreneur at the Age of 20
Based in Plymouth, Michigan, the company has over 10 landscaping services for more than 50 clients annually throughout Wayne County. Homeowners and businesses rely on AJ and his two four-person crews to provide general landscaping services, including hedge trimming; weeding and leaf cleanup; installation of mulch, decorative stones, plants, seeds and sod, and sprinklers; hardscape work (patio and terrace); and pressure washing. The crew also transports landscape materials to job sites and removes waste to dump sites.
Transforming Outdoor Spaces
AJ also helps bring his clients’ visions of picture-perfect outdoor spaces to life. He provides end-to-end services, from design to coordination and complete outdoor space implementation. His experienced, licensed crew, unwavering commitment to meeting project and delivery schedules, and offering efficient, affordable landscape design have solidified the business’s stellar reputation in the community. Since he started Above 10 Landscaping five years ago, the company has continued to grow as it exceeds the expectations of its clients.
AJ and the Above 10 team’s mission is to be open and transparent and build long-term client relationships. Above 10 is committed to providing quality materials at the most competitive rates. Clients can rely on Abdelnour and his crew to never cut corners or compromise the work and service they provide.
In fact, Above 10 receives rave reviews and client referrals. One happy client thanked AJ and the team for their amazing job transforming a front yard that “looked awful” to one that was now “spectacular.”
Another client loved the “awesome job” they did clearing out an extensive and dense section of a yard overgrown with weeds. Above 10 “leveled the ground and put down topsoil, grass seed, and hay. The price was reasonable for the amount of work involved (even went above and beyond by moving hundreds of pounds of newly uncovered rocks and making it decorative after consulting with us). They did a great job cleaning up after themselves, too. I highly recommend this company to my friends, family, and neighbors.”
Keeping Active: Boarding, Fishing, and Basketball
It’s no surprise that AJ Abdelnour started a landscaping company. Since childhood, he has loved the outdoors, particularly board activities, which give him a sense of freedom and peace, whether he is wake surfing, skateboarding, or snowboarding. He also enjoys fishing. The outdoors provided him with an escape from his studies, which he excelled in throughout his education and formative years.
However, AJ’s studies weren’t his only focus while attending Catholic Central High School in Novi, Michigan, where his GPA was 4.33. He played basketball for the Shamrocks, scoring high as a point guard and co-captain. He often made the local papers for his high-scoring games.
He also worked during high school at Meadows Fine Wine and Liquor in Farmington Hills, Michigan, where he managed and stocked inventory, placed orders, and worked the register.
AJ Abdelnour’s Volunteer Work, Community Advocacy Activities
Volunteer work has always been important to AJ, specifically helping and training young kids. He was a basketball trainer at Get Skillz Basketball in Livonia, Michigan, for four summers. He taught kids ages five to 16 skills such as dribbling, shooting, and footwork. He also reviewed and analyzed films with athletes.
AJ also volunteers at Hoopdrillz Basketball Academy, which his old basketball trainer runs. Hoopdrillz was founded to become a haven for basketball players with a genuine passion for getting better. The academy’s mission is to build a community of players, coaches, and program alums who motivate, mentor, support, and, most importantly, hold each other accountable.
In addition, he volunteers at St. Mary’s Montessori in Livonia, Michigan, where he supervises the children, cleans up learning and activity areas, and coordinates outdoor activities.
As a volunteer for Focus Hope in Detroit, he designed and coordinated the construction of a garden with a refurbished storage container to distribute food and clothes to local people and provide a safe place for kids to go after school. Focus Hope’s mission is to recognize the dignity and beauty of every person. It pledges intelligent and practical action to overcome racism, poverty, and injustice and to build a metropolitan community where all people may live in freedom, harmony, trust, and affection.
AJ has been a member of UNICEF at Michigan State University for two years.
Most recently, AJ Abdelnour volunteered with 30 others to visit an impoverished area in Jamaica. In March 2024, he spent a week there, where he and the other volunteers served 300 locals.
